Applications will be reviewed, and panel interviews conducted, on an ongoing basis throughout the summer.We reserve the right to close this vacancy earlier than the advertised closing date should a sufficient number of applications be received.
Subject to the vacancy remaining open, final applications will be considered and final interviews will take place during the week commencing 31 August 2026.
Training will take place week commencing 7th September and all RA’s will be expected to be available from 7th to 11th September between 9am and 5pm to attend the compulsory training (Training schedule TBC).  
ResLife (right click to open a new tab) are looking for passionate new live-in Assistants to join our team for the 2026/27 year ahead!
This role will involve helping provide a lively, friendly and supportive community in the student halls through running activities and events within the University calendar year. You will help enrich the student experience; further reach diverse student groups; encourage involvement and participation and motivate students meeting new people.
Please Note: This is a paid ‘live-in’ role, where you will work and live in one of our BU-managed halls of residence (right click to open a new tab). The role is part-time, fixed-term, from September 2026 to June 2027. We welcome applicants from first to final years of education, from all courses.
Purpose of role
The role contributes to the delivery of activities and events that enhance the student experience, encourage participation, and support the development of social connections and life skills. ResLifeBU Assistants actively engage with students living in their designated halls, helping to create inclusive, welcoming communities and supporting students in their transition to university life. By fostering a positive atmosphere and encouraging involvement, the role supports student wellbeing, connection, and belonging, particularly for students who may be at risk of social isolation.
Key Tasks
 
Programme Delivery and Engagement
  •  Support the delivery of a programme of social and community-building activities for students living in university accommodation.
  • Work collaboratively with SUBU staff, accommodation teams, and other relevant university stakeholders to encourage participation and engagement.
  • Attend and support events and activities to ensure a positive and welcoming student experience.
Social media and Promotion
  • Promote ResLifeBU activities and events through a range of methods, including social and print media, noticeboards, word of mouth.
  • With an interest in social media, contribute to the creation of content on relevant social media platforms.
Community Building
  • Proactively engage with students within the residential community, encouraging positive relationships between neighbours.
  • Support students to connect with one another and participate in activities that build friendships and social networks.
  • Role model positive behaviour and promote respectful community standards within the accommodation.
Welcome and Signposting
  •  Support student arrivals during arrivals weekends in collaboration with accommodation providers.
  • Assist with welcoming new residents, sharing information about the ResLifeBU programme, and signposting students to relevant communication platforms and SUBU services.
Monitoring, Reporting and Compliance
  • Attend meetings with the line manager other ResLifeBU Assistants to support consistency of practice and information sharing.
  • Complete required paperwork and record-keeping to ensure key data and activity information is logged accurately.
  • Report accidents, incidents, or concerns in line with agreed Health and Safety procedures.
Student Welfare and Safeguarding
  • Act as a visible and approachable presence within the halls.
  • Raise student welfare concerns with appropriate teams, including Student Services and accommodation providers, in line with guidance and boundaries of the role.
  • Identify and escalate behaviour or disciplinary concerns to halls management where necessary.
Training and Development
  • Attend mandatory training sessions to understand the ResLifeBU programme, role responsibilities, health and safety requirements, and designated accommodation context.
  • Engage positively with ongoing development and feedback
Person Specification
  • Current full-time undergraduate or postgraduate student at Bournemouth University.
  • Understanding of issues, especially those related to communal living.
  • Experience supporting and running events, activities, or initiatives.
  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements including risk assessments when arranging or managing events, social or educational activities.
  • Experience of living in university managed accommodation for at least one year.
  • Experience of working in a pastoral or similar role with students/young people.
  • Experience and knowledge of SUBU and Bournemouth University.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to persuade, motivate and organise others.
  • Mature outlook, reliable and flexible
  • DBS check will be required (SUBU will cover the costs)
Accommodation Requirement
  • The ResLifeBU Assistants are required to live in BU's halls of residence to effectively
    perform the role.

The ResLifeBU team at SUBU delivers a programme of events, activities, and support within student accommodation to promote engagement, wellbeing, and a sense of community. Working in partnership with the University and accommodation providers, the team creates inclusive environments where students can build connections, develop life skills, and enhance their overall university experience.
